Tarot: A World of Art and History
With Suzanne Sanders
Date: Thursday, February 8
Location: Christ Church Easton, 111 Harrison Street, Easton
Tarot cards are where art, travel, and history meet. Renaissance cards showed the ruling families of Italy as they gambled their nights away. European kings flaunted their status with gilded decks. “The Lovers” card preserved the infancy of printing. The French Revolution turned “The Pope” into “The Grandfather.”
Seekers of enlightenment loaded Tarot with the wisdom of mythology, religion, and psychology. Artists created decks in the style of every master, including Leonardo, Dali, Van Gogh, Klimt, and Monet. Whatever your favorite subject, there is a deck for that, from Australian Animals to Zombies. Tarot lets you vacation in every part of the globe.
Join us for a light-hearted sampling of history, geography, and art as illustrated by Suzanne’s colorful collection of over 300 decks. Fortune-telling will get a nod, too.
Come see what was, is, and will be with Tarot!
About the Instructor: Suzanne Sanders got a B.A. in humanities from Johns Hopkins because, hey, somebody has to balance out all those pre-med students. She has been a journalist, bartender, poet, adviser, full-tilt mom, and Russian translator. At Jonas’ Attic, she showed how to have fun with metaphysics. Being ringleader for the Friends of the Library book sale took her away from writing temporarily, but that novel won’t be long now. She swears!
