A Few Details about CBMM’s Festivals

TICKETS: CBMM’s numerous exhibitions are open during all Museum festivals for guests to enjoy in addition to the day’s programs and events. Tickets are available at the door, the day of the event.

DOGS: During CBMM festivals and special events and for safety reasons, dogs are not permitted on CBMM grounds, with the exception of certified service dogs. Leashed dogs are permitted on CBMM grounds during regular business hours.

ALCOHOL: Carry-on alcohol on our campus and docks is strictly prohibited at all events where alcohol is available for purchase.

MONEY: Credit cards will be accepted at the door for admission, with festival-goers encouraged to bring cash for use inside the gates. Please note, the nearest ATM is about a five minute walk from the Museum.

PHOTO/VIDEO: Guests are encouraged to take photos and video of their visit to the CBMM Campus. Please note: The Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum frequently takes photographs of festivals and attendees that are used to promote the museum in a number of formats. Permission is implied by your visit to the Museum. 

DRONES: Drone use over and on CBMM’s property is prohibited, unless prior approval is made. Please see the FAA requirements (updated 8/19/16)  for operating a drone, which must first be met prior to any consideration. For more, email



OysterFest is held annually on the last Saturday in October in the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum in St. Michaels, Maryland.

OysterFest is a celebration of the Chesapeake’s oyster. The event features live music on two stages, boat rides, retriever demonstrations, oysters and other local fare, an oyster stew competition and cooking demonstrations, along with children’s activities, oyster demonstrations, harvesting displays and Chesapeake-related documentary screenings.

Free Admission for Everyone! 

Join CBMM members, volunteers and boatyard staff for an official ceremony honoring our own floating fleet as well as other Bay working vessels and pleasure craft. The Reverend Kevin M. Cross from the Church of the Holy Trinity in Oxford, MD will offer prayers.

Wooden classics, vintage race boats, and other antique and Chesapeake Bay-related boats come to the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum for the 29th annual Antique & Classic Boat Festival and The Arts at Navy Point in St. Michaels, MD. Hosted by the Chesapeake Bay Chapter of the Antique & Classic Boat Society (ACBS), this Father’s Day weekend event brings an era of by-gone days.

In celebration of Independence Day, CBMM welcomes The Shades of Blue Orchestra for a live performance at its Big Band Night. Two vocalists will join the 18-piece Shades of Blue Orchestra as they perform from the historic Tolchester Beach Bandstand.

The 7th Annual Watermen’s Appreciation Day celebrates Chesapeake watermen and their heritage. This year’s festival features a reduced price, which includes a “watermen’s rodeo” boat docking contest, live music, and celebrity appearances. Steamed crabs, beer, and other foods and beverages will be available for purchase.

The Charity Boat Auction is held annually on Labor Day weekend at the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum in St. Michaels, Maryland.

The live auction begins at 11am along the museum’s waterfront campus, where more than 90 boats—ranging in size and performance from sailing dinghies to cabin cruisers, and everything in between—will be auctioned off to the highest bidders. Be a part of the Museum’s fall gala fundraiser which includes cocktails, dinner, and dancing on Navy Point. Funds raised support the Museum’s mission to inspire an understanding of and appreciation for the rich maritime heritage of the Chesapeake Bay and its tidal reaches, together with the artifacts, cultures, and connections between this place and its people.

Hundreds of amateur and professional boat builders, model boat builders and enthusiasts come from all over the region to display their skiffs, kayaks, canoes and maritime models. Check out the model pond and boats on land or watch many of these one-of-a-kind vessels race along the Miles River along CBMM’s 18-acre waterfront campus.
