A Few Details about CBMM’s Festivals

TICKETS: CBMM’s numerous exhibitions are open during all CBMM festivals for guests to enjoy in addition to the day’s programs and events. Tickets are available online in advance (see each festival for links). Tickets will also be available at our Welcome Center and Museum Store the day of the event.

DOGS: During CBMM festivals and special events and for safety reasons, only certified service dogs are permitted on CBMM grounds. Leashed dogs are permitted on CBMM grounds during regular business hours/non-festival days.

ALCOHOL: Carry-on alcohol on our campus and docks is strictly prohibited at all events where alcohol is available for purchase.

MONEY: Credit cards will be accepted at the door for admission, with festival-goers encouraged to bring cash for use inside the gates. Please note, the nearest ATM is about a five minute walk from the Museum.

PHOTOS/VIDEO: CBMM welcomes your photographs and videos of CBMM, taken for personal use, and sharing and tagging CBMM through your social media avenues (find us at @chesapeakemaritime on Instagram, for example). Commercial photography is prohibited, unless prior, written permission from CBMM’s Communication’s Department has been made.

Please note: The Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum frequently takes photographs of festivals and attendees that are used to promote the museum in a number of formats. Permission is implied by your visit to CBMM. 

DRONES: Drone use on CBMM’s property is prohibited, unless prior approval by CBMM is made. Please see the FAA requirements (updated 8/19/16)  for operating a drone, which must first be met prior to any consideration, along with the ability to provide a certificate of insurance naming CBMM insured.

Blessing of the Fleet

Free Admission for Everyone! 

Join CBMM members, volunteers and shipyard staff for an official ceremony honoring our own floating fleet as well as other Bay working vessels and pleasure craft. The Reverend Kevin M. Cross from the Church of the Holy Trinity in Oxford, MD will offer prayers.

As a way of saying thank you to the regional community, the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum in St. Michaels, Md. hosts a Community Day, with all festivities taking place on CBMM’s Fogg’s Landing, including free admission for everyone, plus live music, regional foods and drinks, family activities, free boat rides, and more. The Maritime Model Expo features a pond for R/C model sailing and is sponsored by the Model Guild of the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum, the North American Steamboat Modeler’s Association, and the Washington Ship Model Society.

Wooden classics, vintage race boats, and other antique and Chesapeake Bay-related boats come to the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum for the 31st annual Antique & Classic Boat Festival and The Arts at Navy Point in St. Michaels, MD. Hosted by the Chesapeake Bay Chapter of the Antique & Classic Boat Society (ACBS), this Father’s Day weekend event brings an era of by-gone days.

In celebration of Independence Day, CBMM welcomes The Shades of Blue Orchestra for a live performance at its Big Band Night. Two vocalists will join the 18-piece Shades of Blue Orchestra as they perform from the historic Tolchester Beach Bandstand.

Watermen’s Appreciation Day celebrates Chesapeake watermen and their heritage. The event includes a “watermen’s rodeo” boat docking contest, and live music. Steamed crabs, beer, and other foods and beverages will be available for purchase.

The live auction begins at 11am along CBMM’s waterfront campus, where more than 90 boats—ranging in size and performance from sailing dinghies to cabin cruisers, and everything in between—will be auctioned off to the highest bidders.

Be a part of CBMM’s signature fall gala fundraiser which includes cocktails, dinner, and dancing on Navy Point. Funds raised support the Museum’s mission to inspire an understanding of and appreciation for the rich maritime heritage of the Chesapeake Bay and its tidal reaches, together with the artifacts, cultures, and connections between this place and its people.


The Mid Atlantic Small Craft Festival is held annually the first weekend in October at the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum in St. Michaels, Maryland.

Hundreds of amateur and professional boat builders, model boat builders and enthusiasts come from all over the region to display their skiffs, kayaks and canoes. Watch many of these one-of-a-kind vessels race along the Miles River along CBMM’s 18-acre waterfront campus.


OysterFest is held annually on the last Saturday in October in the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum in St. Michaels, Maryland.

OysterFest is a celebration of the Chesapeake’s oyster and this year also means the relaunch of the 1889 bugeye Edna E. Lockwood with her new log-hull bottom. The event features live music on two stages, boat rides, retriever demonstrations, oysters and other local fare, an oyster stew competition and cooking demonstrations, along with children’s activities, oyster demonstrations, harvesting displays and Chesapeake-related documentary screenings.
