Marlinspike Arts Workshop

In this one-day workshop, Richard Scofield, CBMM’s Assistant Watercraft Curator and rigger for more than 50 years, will demonstrate various marlinspike seamanship techniques (decorative and practical). Participants will learn the basics of splicing line while mastering the techniques for tying classic sailor’s knots.

Rising Tide Summer Camp (FULL)

Rising Tide Summer Camp

CBMM’s Rising Tide summer camp is a full-day, hands-on program for students entering grades 6 to 9, where campers create, explore, and have fun through Bay focused activities. Each week long camp will include woodworking and boatbuilding, on-the-water activities, and adventures to locations such as Wye Island and Tuckahoe State Park.

FULL – Girls’ Woodshop

Calling all girls in grades six to nine! Join CBMM for an evening Girls’ Woodshop program. Over the course of three days, we will teach you the basics of hand tools and wood construction as we each create our own planter box from scratch. Led by Seip Family Foundation Rising Tide Apprentice Lauren Gaunt, the goal of the workshop is to provide girls with knowledge of basic hand tools and wood construction, and help them feel confident and at home in the workshop.

Timberframing Workshop

Participants will learn about the age-old building process of timber framing, help layout a building plan and mortise and tenons using all hands tools. Instructor Grigg Mullen got involved in timber framing in 1994 as a craftsman, engineer, rigger and event organizer. In this time, he has worked on numerous projects both in the US and UK. He joined the Timber Framers Guild in 1994, serving three terms on the TFG board of directors, and is a founding and ongoing member of the Timber Framing Engineering Council.

Electronic Navigation for Non-Technical People

Join Captain Jerry Friedman, a 100-ton, USCG-licensed Master, as he provides short non-technical descriptions of how GPS, GPS plotters, radar, depth sounders, and automatic identification systems work. These are common electronic navigation systems used on recreational and commercial boats.
