The Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum has recently been named a Certified Clean Marina Partner by the Maryland Department of Natural Resources.

Clean Marina Partners promote the pollution prevention goals of Maryland’s Department of Natural Resource’s Clean Marina Initiative. Managers of Clean Marina Partners voluntarily incorporate pollution prevention measures into their daily operations and promote the conservation ethic: individual responsibility for healthy land and water.

Initiatives taken by CBMM to qualify for the recognition include having an onsite pump-out service, vegetated buffer areas for storm water management, solid waste recycling, run-off management utilizing rain barrels, and native Maryland plantings throughout campus.

cmlogo200This year, the Midshore Riverkeeper Conservancy will also be running a pump-out boat from CBMM’s Miles River campus. The boat will offer a free pump-out service to pleasure boats on the Miles and Wye Rivers, and will run from May 13 through October 16, 2016.

“We’re proud to offer a certified clean marina to our marina guests,” said CBMM President Kristen Greenaway. “It shows our commitment to the Chesapeake Bay, and provides an example of best practices to our more than 70,000 annual guests.”

Situated along St. Michaels Harbor and the Miles River, CBMM has a members-only marina that offers 40 slips with electric, pump-out service, showers, and other amenities. Day and overnight docking is available, with reservations made with CBMM’s Dockmaster at 410-745-4946, with more information at www.cbmm.org.

The Maryland Clean Marina initiative recognizes and promotes marinas, boatyards and yacht clubs that meet legal requirements and voluntarily adopt pollution prevention practices. DNR has certified nearly 25 percent of Maryland’s estimated 600 marinas as Clean Marinas or Clean Marina Partners. For more information, visit www.dnr.state.md.us/boating/cleanmarina.
