Meet: Bill Lane, Friends Board
A true native of the Eastern Shore, Bill Lane was born in Easton, grew up near St. Michaels, and spent his childhood learning to crab and sail along the Chesapeake. After attending school at Washington & Jefferson College in Washington, PA and serving in the United States Army from 1973-1982, Bill returned to the Bay Hundred area to work for Avon-Dixon Insurance Agency.
When Bill was growing up, CBMM did not yet exist, but once he returned to the area, Bill enjoyed bringing his sons to visit. In 1992, Bill served on CBMM’s Board. He feels CBMM provides important access to education and local knowledge for community members.
As a member of the Friends Board, Bill values working with CBMM President Kristen Greenaway to help increase CBMM’s presence in the community. He believes St. Michaels has a lot to offer and CBMM contributes greatly to the town’s visibility and character.
In addition to his work with Avon-Dixon and CBMM, Bill is an avid sailor. He owns and races three 11½ foot long class-designed Penguin sailing dinghies, all named after characters from Alice in Wonderland—White Knight, Cheshire Cat, and White Rabbit. He also owns a 30 foot Hunter Alura, The Carpenter. Bill and his family take The Carpenter out to watch the summer log canoe races and July 4 fireworks during CBMM’s Big Band Night.
We thank Bill for his time and dedication to CBMM!
