Supporting CBMM, by Kristen Greenaway

Kristen GreenawayDecember 8, 2017

Dear Friend,

How do you de-stress in a world filled with chaos and uncertainty? For me, getting out on the Miles River with family and friends, enjoying the Chesapeake’s waters, does the trick!

Thank you—our members, volunteers, and supporters—for sharing our love of the Bay. Thank you for joining us in preserving and celebrating its history, environment, and, most importantly, its people. After all, it is you who lives, works or plays here—that helps create the rich tapestry of life that CBMM is honored to protect.

This past year, I’ve had the fortune to do some travel, most recently to Valparaiso, Chile for the International Congress of Maritime Museums’ conference. There is no better feeling than returning to St. Michaels to enjoy everything CBMM with you, your family, and your friends.

School GroupI love the moments when a guest stumbles upon something extraordinary, and I have the opportunity to hear their unbridled reaction. Often, laughter flows through my office window when Miss Freedom is discovered for the first time—almost always accompanied by, “hey, take a photo of me in front of her!” Or, better yet, I look forward to the joyful chatter of students walking along the pathway outside my office as they escape the classroom to experience one of our K-12 education programs.

Perhaps you were one of the guests I heard outside my window!

Perhaps you, your child, or grandchild were one of the 6,000 participants to attend our K-12 guided tours this year, which we are working hard to expand, to reach even more schoolchildren across Delmarva and beyond.

Perhaps you attended one of our yearly festivals—Mid-Atlantic Small Craft Festival is my favorite!

Perhaps you brought a friend along with you, to drink and be merry at our Member Night beer tastings in the Boatyard in May and October.

Or, maybe you saw—in person or live on Facebook—our shipwrights marry Edna E. Lockwood’s topsides to her new hull as part of her restoration; a nerve racking yet fascinating process!

We are very grateful to be able to share these experiences with you, and to offer opportunities to enjoy and celebrate a very special way of life on the Bay with your friends and loved ones.

And we can’t do so without your continued support! Please consider making a tax deductible contribution to The Annual Fund today, and help us continue to celebrate, educate, and inspire.

Thank you for your support!

Yours sincerely,

Kristen L. Greenaway,
CBMM President
