Join Hair O’ The Dog Wine & Spirits and discover how to pair wines with Thanksgiving oysters. Kate Livie, author of “Chesapeake Oysters – The Bay’s Foundation and Future” and CBMM’s Director of Education, will be on hand for a screening of the MPT program Eatin’ Oysters: Chesapeake Style, also featuring CBMM’s Chief Curator Pete Lesher.
Experience the ongoing transformation of the historic restoration of the log hull of 1889 bugeye Edna E. Lockwood. The queen of CBMM’s Floating Fleet, Edna Lockwood is the last historic sailing boat of her kind. Boatyard manager and shipwright Mike Gorman will share how shipwrights and apprentices are shaping and carving the new hull like they did more than 127 years ago. Enjoy tastings from a local brewery while enjoying the boatyard.

One of Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum’s biggest fundraisers is the annual Charity Boat Auction, which takes place this year on Saturday, September 2. Donated boats are offered for sale and purchased by the highest bidder. Members are offered an advance preview of all the wonderful boats for sale, both on land and in the water.

The very first exhibition to showcase the black-and-white photography of Robert de Gast, members will have the opportunity to view approximately 80 photographs curated from CBMM’s collection of more than 10,000 by deGast and hear from Chief Curator Pete Lesher. De Gast’s photography gained widespread attention with the publication of his book, The Oystermen of the Chesapeake, in 1970. This stunning exhibit is not to be missed.
Shipwright Educator Matt Engel will offer an overview of CBMM’s Rising Tide boatbuilding program for Talbot County middle school students. Students will be working that day until 5:30, so feel free to arrive a few minutes early to watch them in class. You’re also encouraged to “bring a friend” to introduce them to CBMM membership. There’s no better way to support the Chesapeake Bay than being a CBMM member.
On Tuesday, March 21 (rescheduled from March 14) from 5 to 7 pm, renowned artist Marc Castelli will present “Magic Lantern Story” – An Evening with Marc Castelli. The slide presentation features his annual show of photographs taken on the water in all of the fisheries.

Pete Lesher will present sailor’s valentines-framed items and boxes ornamented with small shells made by Caribbean islanders sold to sailors passing through. CBMM has several collected by Leonard Tawes, a schooner captain from Crisfield. Other tales of Chesapeake Bay romance will be told, as well as a little serenading from a local barbershop quartet.
