Ship portraits, watermen and their vessels at work, maritime landscapes, and renderings of historic activities and events are the subjects of the some 1,500 historic and contemporary paintings, prints, and other artworks in CBMM’s collections. Regional artists such as Louis Feuchter, H. Bolton Jones, Otto Muhlenfeld, Leonard Vosburgh are well-represented, along with more contemporary artists Marc Castelli, John Barber and John Moll. Posters, print advertisements, art prints, and detailed drawings from publications including Harper’s Weekly and Frank Leslie’s Illustrated Newspaper visually represent maritime activities and occupations.
