Screen Painting Workshop
Saturday, Jan. 17 | 1-4pm
Screen painting is a unique folk art that started in Baltimore in 1913. Join master screen painter John Iampieri to experience this distinctive art form and create your own framed screen painting to take home.
This hands-on workshop is generously supported by the Upper Shore Regional Folklife Center.
About the instructor: Owner of Bella Designs in Bishopville, Md., Iampieri has been hand painting screens for businesses and homes for decades. Influenced by the traditional methods of Baltimore screen painters, his work has been exhibited throughout the United States from Hawaii to Key West to Canada. John’s screens have been in feature films, TV commercials, magazines, and newspapers. In addition to sharing the history, tools and techniques used in this art form, John strives to teach others how art can express so many meanings. In 2010, Iampieri’s successful screen painting workshop at Pocomoke Middle School was included in a feature on “The NBC Today Show,” with Ann Curry. In 2015, CBS Sunday Morning Show featured notable screen painters, including Iampieri, and highlighted he history of screen painting in Baltimore.
