#9121: Strip Built Sea Kayak 17′ The Guillemot
Price: $2000
Strip Built Sea Kayak 17′ The Guillemot. Built by a local Maryland craftsman who purchased the plans and then hand selected all the wood (not a kit). Absolutely beautiful. Check out the sister kayak, also done by the same craftsman in listing 9123.
The Guillemot is a beautiful, high-performance design for intermediate and skilled kayakers. The distinctive lines perform well in a variety of conditions. At 17 feet long and 21 inches wide, it’s a good boat for day trips and short camping trips. The long overhangs give it a waterline of 14 feet 8 inches. It provides excellent maneuverability. With a waterline beam of 20 3/4 inches, the Guillemot is easy to lean without feeling too tender (tippy). The fairly flat bottom surfs easily, while the swept bow rides over waves nicely. The low profile of the deck presents little area for the wind to push against. The rounded transition from deck to hull across the sheer makes it very easy to roll.
