This is the Boats of the Bay: Racing Boats Guided Tour. Sailors often claim that whenever two boats are heading in the same direction at the same time, there is a race. From sailing log canoes and skipjack races to one-design classes and hydroplanes, explore some of the racing traditions that keep the spirit of competition alive in the Chesapeake. This tour requires a moderate amount of walking (approximately 1/4 mile) across uneven surfaces, including gravel and boardwalk.

This is the Boats of the Bay: Log-Bottom Boats Guided Tour. Boats like bugeyes and log canoes were carved from up to nine logs laid side by side. Evolving from indigenous dugout canoe traditions, this construction method resulted in rugged, utilitarian vessels that were completely unique to the Chesapeake. This tour will explore some of the log-bottom boats in CBMM’s collection, as well as CBMM’s Shipyard, which buildsrestores, and maintains these vessels. This tour requires a moderate amount of walking (approximately 1/4 mile) across uneven surfaces, including gravel and boardwalk.
