Homeschool Engineering Workshop

Thursday, Feb. 25 | 10am-noon

 

On Thursday, Feb. 25, homeschool students ages 8 and older are invited to explore structural engineering by designing and building a bridge. Through a hands-on challenge, participants will learn how compression and tension create strong structures while using the engineering design process to test and improve their designs. This two-hour workshop encourages problem solving, collaboration, and creative thinking.

Participants may be dropped off and picked up at the end of the program, or a chaperoning adult may stay for the workshop.  All participants must register in advance.

Cost: $10 per participating student (ages 8-and-older), with a 20% discount for CBMM members. Accompanying chaperones and younger siblings are free.

Homeschool Workshop: Winter in a Box

Tuesday, Jan. 13 | 10am-noon

 

In our Winter in a Box Homeschool Workshop on Tuesday, Jan. 13, participants will create a winter-inspired shadow box using pre-cut wooden pieces and natural objects they collect while exploring campus. Designed for ages 5-12, this hands-on program encourages creativity, observation, and connection to the winter landscape as students design a unique keepsake inspired by nature.

Participants may be dropped off and picked up at the end of the program, or a chaperoning adult may stay for the workshop. Students under age 7 must be accompanied by an adult for the duration of the program. All participants must register in advance.

During this afternoon session, homeschool students ages 10-13 will get creative to make wonderful tapestries inspired by the Chesapeake Bay and its critters. All materials are provided by CBMM as part of the registration cost. Pre-registration is required.

Homeschool students ages 11-18 will explore the stories of freedom seekers through primary sources, maps, and the Sailing to Freedom: Maritime Dimensions of the Underground Railroad exhibition. This workshop focuses on geography and historical analysis skills through hands-on activities.

The cost is $15 per program participant. Participants may be dropped off and picked up at the end of the program or a chaperoning adult may stay for the program.

The cost is $15 per program participant. Participants may be dropped off and picked up at the end of the program or a chaperoning adult may stay for the program.
