Experience the heritage, ecology, and culture of the Chesapeake Bay with family and friends! Spend the night in a lighthouse, get building with Rising Tide, or explore the magic of the Chesapeake at summer camp. You can do it all at CBMM!
Rising Tide teaches students basic design and building skills in a welcoming, relaxed environment. The program works to inspire participants to develop a sense of self-confidence and pride, and facilitate mentorships that provide guidance and support. Students of the program will be encouraged to become more academically prepared to achieve long-term success, whether on a college track or vocational emphasis, having gained skills in mathematics, engineering, team building, and project management.
2025–26 School Year
Come build a boat with us!
This year, Rising Tide is all about boatbuilding! Students in grades 6–9 will roll up their sleeves and work alongside our skilled workshop educators to bring real boats to life.
Through this hands-on experience, students will:
- Learn woodworking skills and shop safety
- Work as a team to build boats from start to finish
- Launch their creations on the water in the spring
Rising Tide blends creativity, craftsmanship, and teamwork in a fun, supportive environment. It’s the perfect program for students who love to build, explore, and take on new challenges.

Class dates and times
After-school classes are held from 3:30–5:30pm. Rising Tide follows Talbot County Public School weather related closings. If school is closed or dismissed early, classes at CBMM will also be canceled.
Appropriate clothing
Safety is our highest priority. Students are required to wear close-toed shoes in the shop. We provide safety glasses, hearing protection, and dust protection in the shop. We also recommend wearing clothes that are okay to get messy. The shop is not climate controlled and students should bring an old jacket or sweater in the colder months. Space is provided to change clothes, and students can leave work clothes at the shop if they attend classes regularly.

Spend your summers with CBMM! Camps allow children ages 4–15 to explore the magic of the Chesapeake’s people, traditions, animals, and environment. Weekly camp programs rotate between age groups, with each session limited to a maximum of 8 campers. Programs offer a fun, hands-on learning environment that includes stories, games, crafts, environmental and on-the-water activities, and creative projects. Summer camps run for 10 weeks during June, July, and August.
Travel back in time to explore the adventurous, exciting, and sometimes dangerous life of a lighthouse keeper with hands-on, interactive activities. In CBMM’s Lighthouse Overnight Program, youth groups, students, Scouts, children’s groups, and their chaperones experience the rustic life of a lighthouse keeper while spending the night in the historic 1879 Hooper Strait Lighthouse, located on CBMM’s 18-acre campus along St. Michaels Harbor.
